Your suggestion would work, but then I would have to get into an argument with the network guys when I tell them that I need twice as much disk just so that I can do a physical concatenation of all of the files. I don't think I have a leg to stand on, given that there is a programmatic, scalable solution (i.e., processing each file on its own). I think that I might have to modify the appllication...
