This formatting problem doesn't occur when I send emails to individuals. And because the default always go back to rich text, I sometimes forget to click the 'plain text' button when sending emails to IBM-MAIN. Because this is a pain, I've just reported it to Microsoft and they've asked me to send them an example of what people receive. So, if anyone is reading this message and the formatting doesn't look 'right', would you mind sending it back to me so I can forward it to Microsoft? Just so you know what the formatting 'should' look like, I manually entered the following: This is on a line all by itself.
This is on a line all by itself, and indented 3 spaces.
Same as above but indented 6 spaces.
Once again, but only indented 3 spaces.
Not indented.
The paragraph below is identical to the paragraph above, except that I pasted it from a mainframe session (just in case it makes any difference): This is on a line all by itself. This is on a line all by itself, and indented 3 spaces. Same as above but indented 6 spaces. Once again, but only indented 3 spaces. Not indented. Thanks!

No.

Each of your first three paragraphs come across
as one long line. The next five lines come across
properly indented as you describe

The next paragraph comes across as one long line.
The cut and paste comes across with weird spacing.

What email client are you using? I use Thunderbird
and I set my options to only send and receive plain
text, and I force lines to wrap at 80 characters at
compose time.

I've also gotten into the habit of deliberately
putting in my own line breaks, forcing at least
roughly the way I want it to appear. I do this
because I know that some mail readers will not
break lines unless you tell them to, and many
people have different settings.
