DR is NOT EQUAL to "mainframe is up and ready". You (your business) needs *complete solution*, possibly including small funny Windows/Linux servers that we don't like and don't care. From my experience I could say that having mainframe working on DR site is piece of cake, when compared to the rest of infrastructure.

Complete agreement. For us, mainframe DR was measured in hours, and fractions thereof. Windoze/Linux server recovery was measured in DAYS, and fractions thereof. Backup and recovery of all those small machines just isn't as robust and timely as what we're accustomed to on our "super servers".

I attribute a large part of this problem to the various vendors of the equipment. There are no standards vis-a-vis tape recording formats, no high-capacity tape gear, no standardized backup/recovery software and last but not least, no proper attitude in this direction. Management won't invest, and PFCSK's mostly just don't give a damn.
