Greetings:

We have been planning a z/OS upgrade from 1.4 for some time. First we
installed 1.7 in our sandbox/test LPAR and began testing system components
and subsystems. Things went well. Then we were told we had to upgrade to
z/OS 1.8 from 1.4 by management which is aware that there is no supported
fall back in that case.

We just started bringing up z/OS 1.8 in our test LPAR. We discovered our
Netview version (3.1 - 5655-007) can no longer issue system commands
(message CNZ005I). I believe this is due to the console restructure part 2
contained in z/OS 1.8.

I discovered some new parameters in the CONSOLxx parmlib member that I
thought would "save" us from upgrading Netview. I added INTIDS(Y) UNKNIDS
(Y) to two of our existing operator console definitions. After an IPL the
problem did not disappear.

Of course management would like to squeak by with the current version of
Netview because the mainframes will be decommissioned in (fill in the blank)
__ years. Also we would have a challenge to upgrade Netview by our mid
November z/OS 1.8 implementation date due to lean staffing in our area.

Netview is our main system automation tool and replacing this function with
other system exits is also undesirable.Does anyone have any ideas, zaps or
other parameters that would allow us the continue using the old Netview?

Thanks

Steve
