It's a risk/benefit question for us. How bad is the pain vs. how bad we need/want the fix. I do try to test in my testbed, even if I know that I will probably wait for the PTF, at least for production. That way, I can contribute my test results (good or bad) while the APAR is still open. After all, if I have experienced the problem, or can create it, and the fix either does not fix it for me or causes some other problem, the overall time to fix the problem for everybody (IMHOP) will be shortened by having more folks test while IBM still has the APAR open and their folks working on the problem. YMMV.
