Raymond, I don't know if this is your issue but we had FTP problems when we upgraded to Gigabit OSAs on a z/OS 1.4 system. IIRC the MTU on the ROUTE (or GATEWAY) statement had a value greater than 1500 (which is the ethernet max frame size). We had a z/OS 1.7 test system with the same MTU but it did not fail. We set the MTU to 1500 on 1.4 and the other sides and it solved the problem. Apparently z/OS 1.4 tries to use the large MTU and the router dropped the frame but z/OS 1.7 must be smart enough to know not to send out a ethernet frame larger than 1500. The OSAs replaced an IBM 2216.
