Alex tells me [off-list] that the DCE contains two fields: recommended and maximum block size at offsets x'5C' and x'60' into the DCE. You can display this control block using the "DS QT,xxxx,UCB,DCE" command.

Here's what's shown for one of our 3590-H11s. Both recommended and max block size values are x'40000' = 256KB:
