Suggest you download DAF (Dataset Audit Facility) from CBT and get a definitive
answer for when the file was deleted and by whom. Also what was the DISP for
the job allocating the file? I once clobbered a file even though it was in use.
Since the DISP was SHR, the answer from IBM was WAD.

Subject: can SMS managed VSAM file be deleted while allocated

is it possible for a VSAM file on an SMS managed volume to be deleted
while it is still allocated to a job?

i am trying to determine how and when a file got deleted (ie: either
while the job was running or afterwards).

i am not sure if the file was actually opened by the program executing
the job step, but it was allocated to the job stream via jcl with the

IGD103I SMS ALLOCATED TO DDNAME message issued. and i do not think that
the program would have dynamically

de-allocated the file.

if it matters, the VSAM file was defined with share options 4,3.

thanks in advance for any info about this.
