How long is a piece of string? Is that longer or shorter than a rope?

Too often, management does not compare "direct costs" (i.e., "I gotta write a
check") with "indirect costs" (i.e., "I'm already paying that salary anyway").
In those cases, any "direct" cost greater than zero is "too much". I'm sure
you're only too familiar with that school of thought in your business.
