Thanks.

But I see from the other replies that I was correct: OSA cards vary in their
capabilities. Exactly what a given card can and cannot do depends on a number
of factors.

Hal,

Here are a couple. SA22-7990 is the OSA/ICC User's Guide, SA22-7935 is
the OSA-Express customer guide and reference. I pulled these from the
z/OS 1.7 document CDs so I don't have a URL for them.

In addition is the Redbook that Chris pointed out.

Hal,

While I'm not sure what an OSE is, I'm pretty sure that your comment
about "if one port is set up as ICC, the other port is unusable" is
incorrect. According to the OSA/ICC user's guide, you define an ICC as
type OSC in the HCD. That being the case, we have 2 OSA-Express cards
in our z9BC. Each of these is being used with 1 port being defined as
OSD and the other port is defined as OSC. We are running our TCP/IP
traffic through the OSD ports on both OSA cards and are pushing our
console traffic to the OSC ports on each card. We are sharing both the
OSC and OSD ports across 3 LPARs.

Unfortunately I can't respond directly to Gadi's question as I don't
have the answer.
