Some thoughts about it: Depending on the location on the volume, the activity on it and the time that has passed since deleting the dataset, chances are probably low, that the original data is still there.
It only has value if you can make sure that the space was not overwritten. It might even be possible that a dataset was allocated on that area and again deleted, in which case you might think that the original data is still there, but it isn't. Another item is security: you can map a dataset that you are allowed to read over data that you were not allowed to read. Kees.
