Bob, I've tested bzip2 version (1.0.4) which came with our latest order
of "IBM Ported Tools".
I've found it to be at least 4 time slower in comparison to Info-ZIP.
Not sure how bzip2 verion 1.0.5 compares to Info-ZIP?

unzip patch.

I don't require the MVS unzip (cmsmvs version) as urgently as I required
the zip function.
For now your USS unzip patch works well (& fast as well) with Kirk's
CoZBATCH utility. I'm able to at least write to an MVS dataset, with the
zip file residing in USS.

On the topic of ZIP (MVS/cmsmvs version):
========================================
I've received feedback that all the zipped files using Info-ZIP were
readable by the application. Except the following two issues :

1. Only problem experienced was that mentioned in my previous note of
having to specify -fz option for zipping files > 7GB. I thought this was
resolved.

2. Also for zipping a 46GB file (with the -fz specified) I get the
following error :
zip I/O error: EDC5013I No hiperspace blocks are available for
expansion.
zip error: Output file write failure (write error on zip file)

I tried specifying MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT in the JCL, but gives the same
error.

It looks to be that we've reached our limit on hiperspace blocks
(Address space reaches 2GB when it ends with RC=14 and the above
mentioned error). Not sure where/how to specify more.

Thanks again for the support received,
Vikesh
