I would expect bzip2 to be slower, but maybe not this much. The
Ported Tools version is probably not aggressively optimized.
bzip2 is known to be fairly slow at compressing, and pretty fast at
decompressing. My results with my build of bzip-1.0.5, compiled with
max optimization, are:
compression: about 2.5 times slower than zip
decompression: about the same as unzip
These tests were done using the -9 (max compression) option in bzip2,
and the default compression level in zip - so there's a slight
inconsistency.
