thanks for your reply I was aware of all of solutions suggested, and this
is why I cross posted to Z/os (typical responses from larger shops ), Z/vm
and Z/vse
which we happen to run all on the same box, the smaller shops which IBM
doesn't seen to care about all still needed ESCON, and all the wonderful
solutions
were cost prohibitive for them, and said would prob get off MF then upgrade
it.

Note: GRS. GRS ring cannot be established using FICON channels (I mean
non-sysplexed systems).
So?
Nothing. People who really need ESCON have two choices:
a) stay with older CPC generations, even unsupported. It could stay for
years - see case of 3490E drives
b) use Optica converter. We've been using it for Bus&Tag emulation even
on z10. One can use FC to CNC converter for as long.

BTW: IBM decision is notridiculous. There are really few *IMPORTANT*
devices on ESCON. Consoles can be migrated to ICC, tapes - if you care
about performance - should be migrated few generations ago, DASDs should
obviously be migrated to FICON many moons ago. What's left? Printers?
GRS CTC?
