When we migrated from a 2105 to an DS8100 we used TDMF. I think it took 6-8 hours but we only had about 5 Tb at the time. I think we still used Escon then.
When we migrated from the DS8100 to a DS8800 we used PPRC. The CE set it up and it worked great. If you're not licensed for PPRC this probably isn't an option. When buying new DASD from IBM, often one can negotiate for the free use of TDMF during migration.
