Of if you use Firefox browser, just install the EPUBReader extension
and use Firefox. Works on Fedora Linux and presumably would work on the
many other platforms supported by Firefox.

And the cross-platform Calibre does nicely - for laptops/desktops. I use
it on both OSX and Linux. (In fact I use Calibre to convert EPUB to MOBI
for my Kindle occasionally.)

For those with at least one foot in the Apple ecosystem, if you have an
i-device (ipad/iphone), drag and drop the ePub on iTunes, then sync your
device with iTunes. The books will open in the iBooks app (a free
download).
If you don't have an i-device, Bookle (
http://www.stairways.com/main/bookle) is an excellent ePub reader for Mac
OS.
For Windows users, see
http://blog.kowalczyk.info/articles/epub-ebook-reader-viewer-for-windows.html
for a list of ePub readers.
Android users can find a list of readers (be sure to check that they will
open ePub rather than just proprietary formats) at
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70921.
