Bets are off if you want to use EXCP as the format isn't the same as a traditional sequential data set. I'm trying to remember how long striped data sets have been around- it's been a good few years. I've just remembered that extended format also allows hardware compression using zEDC cards so a compressed extended format sequential data set would also be worth considering if the hardware's there.
