You could attach a 3290 to a DFT interface on any cluster controller with the 
proper features. Prior to SMCS you had to attach it to a local non-SNA 
controller if you wanted to use it as a console. I never heard of anyone 
wanting one on a BSC controller, but AFAIK that was supported.

Only 1 coax cable to a 3290.  It was a DFT device (distributed function 
terminal).  They were more of an SNA device and not sure they functioned as 
non-sna from what I remember
