From the problem user, issue a very simple operator command that always returns
a response - for example "/D T".

If you see the response in the SDSF screen buffer, then this means that the
EMCS console is OK and the reason that you are getting no response is either
down to the software that is responding to the command not using a CART or the
response exceeding the SDSF timeout value (you can use "SET TIMEOUT nn" to
specify the maximum number of seconds to wait for a response - note that "SET
TIMEOUT 0" indicates that SDSF will NOT wait for a response and could explain
what you are seeing). You can use "SET TIMEOUT ?" to see the current setting.

If there is no response to "/D T" then the most likely reason is that there is
a problem setting up the EMCS console used by SDSF.

Check the SYSLOG for any messages relating to the issuing user for errors
establishing the console.
A "healthy" sequence of messages would something like :

IEA630I OPERATOR xxxxxxx NOW ACTIVE, SYSTEM=xxxx , LU=S21TCP88
D T
IEE136I LOCAL: TIME=04.27.51 DATE=2021.146 UTC: TIME=08.27.51

Depending on user and site settings, SDSF does attempt to modify the EMCS
console name if activation fails for its current name by appending an extra
character to the end of the name from a list of possible values.

Note that it can only do this console name modification if the console name is
7 characters or less and the site allows it via ISFPRMxx.

There is a custom property that can be used to override SDSF's default
behaviour and it is called "Console.EMCS.NoConMod".

Please see the "SET CONMOD" and "SET CONSOLE" commands.

Subject: MVS command display

EXTERNAL EMAIL

Hello

Usually when we issue a MVS display command from SDSF we get immediately get to
see the output in bold white message and after that we can see either in SYSLOG
or ULOG. One of our user from operation is issuing the command but doesn't get
a immediate output in bold white instead it just says 'command issued' and the
output is seen only in log

Is there any specific user profile definition that I can look to fix this ?

Any pointers or direction are much appreciated.

Jake
