No "tooling" should be needed. IBM tries to make UNIX file support transparent. But "tries" must be emphasized. IBM fixed two APARs for me for nested HLASM COPY members when SYSLIB was a concatenated mixture of PDS and UNIX directories. I suspect the problem was in BPAM but I encountered it in HLASM.
