For what it may be worth, I judge that the new facility is a happy compromise of very different notions of what is important. I have perverse moments in which I should be delighted to see "code that has worked for decades" broken. Any such code should have been reconsidered and in most cases rewritten long before now. Precipitate change needs to be avoided, but this platform should not be hostage to decisions taken in the remote past.
