You are on the very verge of re-inventing program objects in UNIX
files, which work that way.  I once compiled "Hello, World" into
an NFS directory mounted from  a Solaris server.  Worked.  And
you can have program objects, shell scripts, and REXX execs in that
sane directory.

The Idea should be to support UNIX directories in STEPLIB
concatenation, and //STEP  EXEC  PGM='Long-Name'.  SMOP, but
does anyone want to bet?

UNIX System Services grossly underreaches.
