Matt, Thanks. I was making *assumptions* that everything was being done via IP traffic to z/OSMF. I did a bit more googling and you are right about zss, etc. If it cant be all then its likely not worth the effort. As you said, looks like desktop, gateway, app-server, and jes explorer are the only components for docker.
Preparing for Zowe server containers installation Before you install the Zowe server container, make sure that you have the required software and environments. * Zowe installed on z/OS<https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/install-zos> for users of ZSS and ZIS (default when you use the Zowe Application Framework app-server, the Zowe Desktop, or products that are based on them) * z/OSMF installed on z/OS for users of it (default when you use gateway, API Mediation Layer, Web Explorers, or products that are based on them) * A container runtime<https://kubernetes.io/docs/setup/production-environment/container-runtimes/>, such as: * Docker * CRI-O * containerd * Kubernetes Cluster software<https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/k8s-prereqs#kubernetes-cluster> * kubectl<https://docs.zowe.org/stable/user-guide/k8s-prereqs#kubectl-tool>, for initial setup and management of the cluster Dave Jousma Vice President | Director, Technology Engineering From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> on behalf of Matt Hogstrom <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 10:55 AM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: ZOWE in zCX container? What elements of Zowe are you focusing on? There are elements that have to run in z/OS like the ZSS and authorized services engine. There are others like the Desktop which communicates with the previous services. There is also the API ML which can run in containers or natively on Z. I assume that you’re referring to the desktop which seems like a good candidate for a container.
