Well, ECKD wasn’t a mistake when DASD arm movement and rotation speed were MUCH slower and bit density so much lower than today’s devices. Minimizing arm movement back then gave us dramatically positive application speed improvements. Perhaps I should have said “rendered obsolete within a few years by improved hardware” instead of “a mistake”. And then the mistake was not taking steps immediately to reduce the dependency on the obsolete technology. -- Curtis Pew, Mainframe Specialist The University of Texas at Austin | ET Campus Solutions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
