Maybe. That's where my original question comes in: explain to me why 
case-sensitivity is a GOOD thing. I would submit that "simplest for the 
programmer" really isn't an answer. It may be (and I think it is) why it got 
done that way, but it's not a justification.

The simplest thin is to do a binary comparison, which is case sensitive. Also, 
what about accents? Should "chacun à son goût" compare equal to "chacun a son 
gout"?  Should  "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" compare equal to  
"plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose"?
