Small wonder old-timers resent the advent of PDSE.

What I miss most is the inability to recover erroneously scratched
members. More than once I have recovered a member that was too new to be
on a backup, or where it was faster to run the recovery than a restore.
VSAM keeps chains of free blocks, and an option of queueing released
blocks at the end of that chain would have preserved that, at possible
cost (then) of performance.
