I completely disagree. Besides the sysin mentioned, the biggest use I've seen
is to change
the MSGCLASS from the STC default. For example, to send all the output to a
output
management product. How else would you do it outside of starting the STCs
you want
with the MSGCLASS=n parm? Sure you could add that to automation, but what if
you
want to change it or decide you want to add / subtract something? A heck of a
lot easier
to go change a job card in a PDS than automation.

I have been using it since it was available. My first use was to change
things like INIT and
BPXAS to have a MSGCLASS of a JES2 purge class (aka "bit bucket"). That you
can't even
do with automation since those ASIDs are not started by a human nor automation.
My default STC MSGCLASS output has typically been a held class on most systems
I have
worked on. But I have also worked on systems where the default is purge, and
this is
another easy way to change what you need to a non-purge msgclass.

Mark
