Mike, Thanks for the link, but actually it references error 8282 as tape drive needs cleaning in the answer instead of the B282. My CE pointed me to the correct portion of the manual. B282 is actually hidden inside error 04 44 00 b2 82 in the manual and it says "Top I/O station get failure, I/O station will not release cartridge". Actual problem was the gripper failed and threw the cartridge when it spun around from the I/O station to put the tape away.
The odd thing about the manual is that there is a separate large section that documents 4 character error codes and B282 isn't in there. That's where my original confusion came from.
