SYSLOGD has parameters you can place into /etc/syslog.conf that will do automatic archiving. Look at the Comm Svr: IP Configuration Reference for these parms: BeginArchiveParms ArchiveCheckInterval ArchiveThreshold ArchiveTimeOfDay
This allows you to copy the syslogd data to an MVS dataset (gdg if you like) and re-initialize a new syslogd file.
