I agree with most of what you write, but not the bit about being productive 
without 
books. I refer to IBM manuals every day, and my ability to work with the 
manuals is an 
asset. In fact, I would suggest that the single most important skill in this 
field is the 
ability to use the documentation to find the information that you need.
