We have a small range of 3390-9 and 3390-27 volumes shared between 9 sysplexes and monoplexes. One of those volumes is the IODF volume and SYS1.IPLPARM. Different LOADxx members are used, but the IODF is set to "**". We also have a shared catalog with a single HLQ for installing software in that range (several 3390-54 volumes). So we install once and roll out to the various sysplexes via (extended) indirect cataloging of ISV run time data sets on the sysres set.
The z/OS SMP/E global and target zones are also shared and I have 2 target zones for the 2 major companies being supported (due to different usermods / options needed). With all the SMP/E zones shared that match all sysres sets (the zone is cloned along with the sysres set), I can do an SMP/E query for a particular PTF and no exactly what LPARs are running with that PTF on or not.
