Thanks Roger, I'd love to but the FTP dialog is generated internally by RMF PP. 
The workaround is retrieving the reports manually. Still don't understand why 
the RMF group has no answer for this...

Since 'BIRR.' is already your working directory, what happens if you use
RETR D196.T145616.LISTING
instead of
RETR 'BIRR.D196.T145616.LISTING'
