If anybody ever gets the chance to go to SHARE you absolutely must take
in one of Johns mainframe history sessions. The "50 years of the
mainframe" session at Pittsburgh was one of the best I attended all
week. Full of interesting trivia and lots of fun.

BTW isn't 'IML' Initial Microcode Load?
In the late 70's this was termed "IMPL," for initial microprogram
load. It was later shortened to "IML." I never paid attention to
whether "microprogram" sometimes became "microcode" in the acronym, or
in which contexts. Both terms remain in our books, and both are
defined here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/globalization/terminology/i.html
As you can see, both "microcode" and "microprogram" seem to be in use
for the "M" in "IML."
