... I believe (I may be wrong) that RECEIVE FROMNTS still stages SMPPTFIN to Classic data sets.
RECEIVE FROMNTS unpaxes the archives into temporary UNIX files, and then does indeed read the MCS directly from those UNIX files. No data sets are involved.
