I am assuming that VB was changed to VBS in the JCL. Other than the fact that some records end up starting in one block and ending in the next (I am assuming that LRECL is less than BLKSIZE-4 since that is required for VB) there is no difference aside from the better space usage since all blocks are between BLKZIZE-5 (so you have one character of payload in the last record of a block) and BLKSIZE.
