There's no such thing as forever-good values. No one knows what new-function 
enhancements will flow down the pipeline during a z/OS release. Here's the best 
you can do:

1. Configure your environment to ease the task of dataset enlargement, e.g. 
unique HLQ for SMPE target datasets. 
2. Move datasets off the sysres to xxxCAT or xxxDLB if they are not needed at 
execution time.
3. Acquire/master tools like the PDS command that facilitate non-disruptive 
expansion.

Yeah, we can't win there.  Make them big enough for installing lots service and 
people complain about the space they need.  Make them as small as practical so 
people don't need as much disk space, and people complain that they run out of 
space installing service.

We try to manage the algebraic sum to minimize the noise (grin).

So does IDCAMS DELETE these days (I forget when we added this).  Both likely 
use STOW INIT.
