@Liz, thank you, I did come across that article a couple of weeks ago. Had it 
bookmarked for later, I will have to give it a read after all!
@Ed, thanks, I'll go through the source and hopefully that should help identify 
the fields I'm looking for.
@Martin, I believe they are in fixed positions, I haven't looked for all fields 
yet. I'm better equipped at REXX than at DFSORT.

I thought he had said he had tried DAF and didn't understand the output.

I had always written my own programs so I understood the output but....

I think at one time (many years ago) I had tried DAF and could readily figure 
the output out. Maybe the writer should dive into the source code of DAF as I 
found it reasonably documented.
