There must be a reason which was not given fully.

So, I see after rereading the full thread... There is even an interesting
Assembler program thrown in. Not a bad example of usage of packed numbers.

Correct. They are keepers of all volsers. Touch their babies, you touch those
admins... careful fella, they will wipe out your datasets... Just a fast COPY
to DD DUMMY with INCLUDE(<your dsn>) and DELETE keyword. That is all they
need... [0]

Perhaps to resolve temporary x37 abends,

... Or place a [new] dataset to be used for IPL?
... Or you need to place something for zLinux, OMVS, whatever?
... Or you're struggling with some duplicates?
... Or you need 12345678 cyls just for gazillion SORTWKxx DD [1] , ok, I made
the number up, but you'll get the picture. ;-)
... Or your SMS guy/gal screwed up their ACS routines. (Seldom, but it happened
despite test/validate/etc. steps!)

But anyways, your SMS guy/gal will be very very interested in your actions.

[0] - or in ISPF option 3.4, just a //d at the first dsn and // at the last
one, turn off confirmation, and you're finished... (ask a junior who did that
years ago whether he enjoyed that or not... ;-D I had to restore them for him,
great fun, because I told him we don't keep backups, just to scare the *****
out of him....<evil grin> )

[1] - Where dynamic alloc failed, or at least in my case, but never mind, that
was SORTed out.
