Yes, the purpose of consistency group(s) is to synchronize data to a point in time. However, I know consistency groups only in the context of mirroring, specifically XRC in our case. We flash copy from the XRC'ed mirror--already synchronized--to a third copy (where prod counts as 'copy 1'). I have no experience in flashing directly from a volatile DASD environment that is getting updated willy-nilly continuously. I would certainly think that flash copy is designed to handle that case, but we don't do it here.
