Plain 'ol ISPF 3.2 allocate complains if you try to allocate a PDS or PDSE and select "Allocate Mulitple Volumes"
Extended help: "You have selected Allocate Multiple Volumes. The directory blocks field must be zero and the data set name type must be blank to allocate a multivolume data set. Multivolume data sets are sequential data sets." _________________________________________________________________ Dave Jousma Manager Mainframe Engineering, Assistant Vice President [email protected] 1830 East Paris, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 MD RSCB2H p 616.653.8429 f 616.653.2717 -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of John McKown Sent: Monday, November 14, 2016 1:20 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Where are PDSE limitations documented? But this looks interesting: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSLTBW_2.2.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r2.idad400/pdse.htm#pdse To answer your particular question: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSLTBW_2.2.0/com.ibm.zos.v2r2.idad400/asil.htm [quote] This topic shows how to use the SPACE JCL keyword to allocate primary and secondary storage space amounts for a PDSE. The PDSE directory can extend into secondary space. A PDSE can have a maximum of 123 extents. A PDSE cannot extend beyond one volume. Note that a fragmented volume might use up extents more quickly because you get less space with each extent. With a SPACE=(CYL,(1,1,1)) specification, the data set can extend to 123 cylinders (if space is available). [quote] -- Heisenberg may have been here.
