Brian, I am sorry that the IBMFE wasn't has helpful as they should have been. Our Product Engineering team was made aware of this and they are following up. You should be contacted again.
But, in the meantime, I can talk about the "FROM:" name some more. As I stated, the current format is <HMCNAME>_EventMonitor@<HMCNAME>.<domain name>. There used to be a different format, but another customer asked for some changes and the result is the format that you see today. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to change this. Even if you could find a way to set the HMC name to an empty string (and you can't), then you would wind up with something like [email protected] and you would still have an extra period. Based upon experience, I think we need to consider for the future being more flexible, perhaps by letting the full "FROM:" name be entered in, although the default could be based upon today's algorithm. But, this is something we will have to consider for a future release. So, unfortunately, we don't have a way to change it beyond what you have already done. Is there anything that can be done on your email server or perhaps an alternate one could be used?
