I can add a few more comments to Al's nice summary: 1. Multi-Version Measurement also applies to z/VSE and its associated IBM products, and to "IPLA" products such as z/VM, WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, OMEGAMON products, etc., etc.
2. One of MVM's operational implications is that you might not be required to delete all copies of a previous, retired version as long as you remain licensed for the current version. Please confirm that little detail with your IBM representative, but that's how I read it. 3. Just because MVM allows you to run an older version with lower or zero incremental licensing charges doesn't mean you should. It's quite the opposite, actually: you're now much freer to order the latest versions literally on Day 1 and not worry about running past any Single Version Charge periods. You don't have to second guess how long your version upgrade will take. You can (and should) forge ahead, right away. Also, several years ago IBM eliminated charge differences between Version X-1 and Version X. The per MSU charges are equal across versions. So...dive right in! Grab the new versions as soon as they're available. Support lifecycles still apply. 4. My understanding is that you only need to be sub-capacity *eligible* to qualify for MVM -- no OS/390 or 31-bit z/OS, notably -- but otherwise MVM also applies to any full capacity licensed IBM software you might have. The MVM announcement letter explains this detail pretty well, it looks like: https://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/rep_ca/3/897/ENUS217-093/ENUS217-093.PDF 5. An updated release of SCRT should be available on April 10, 2017, to support MVM. You're obliged to use the latest SCRT release anyway, but I recommend marking your calendars to go check for that latest release so you can put it into service as quickly as possible. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples IT Architect Executive, Industry Solutions, IBM z Systems, AP/GCG/MEA E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
