Sorry for not replying to others replies - I didn't realize that after I changed my list setting to digest mode, I wouldn't get replies to my own subject thread.
After looking at all of the options, I'm not going to bother with this machine. I'm just going to keep my eyes out for an early zSeries like Connor's which has either functioning SE's and/or includes the original restore disks. Thanks to all who replied! I guess I need to setup another email address for this list and set my preference back to normal mode so my phone won't go nuts, but I'll still see replies. ________________________________________ From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> on behalf of Jim Stefanik <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2017 19:41 To: [email protected] Subject: S/390 G6 SE Driver Disk Perhaps against the advice of others, I'm considering getting an S/390 G6 without the SE's. I know without them, it's a paperweight. However, my curiosity has lead me to wonder - can ANY S/390 G6 SE driver disk be used to restore a blank SE, or is it serial-linked? In the case of it being serial-linked, is it possible to modify the software to match this machine's serial? The other side is, can I get a support contract (presumably at some insane pricing) from IBM to provide me a copy of the matching software? If anyone has a sure answer; or even better, can put an image dump on DropBox or something of a G6 SE driver disk, that would be great. Thanks!
