Got me, I've never had an issue with a PDS/E in the linklist, PDS/E's for me 
solved some issues with directory block allocation and having the ability to 
reuse space, when a member is deleted/modified or added

Aren't these problems of the sort that PDSE was invented to solve? Indexed 
directories 
facilitate searcn. LUW isolation facilitates live update and compress neither 
needed 
nor supported? 

What went wrong?
