Unfortunately, the HMC System Monitor App is confusing in that the list of
monitors contains items available only when the system is running in Dynamic
Partition Mode (DPM) as well as in the non-DPM mode and the helps do not
explain this.

I am assuming that none of your systems are running in DPM mode. So, given
that, you can start the task ("Monitor System Events" with a target of a CPC.
The only types of events that are supported in non-DPM mode are:

HW Msg Exampls
OS Msg Example
Security Log Example
State Change Example

So, set up the top of the panel with your smtp information and then you can
pick one and select the "add..." button. This will give you a choice of the
object(s) that you want to add an operation for. You also name this operation.
When you are done, select "OK" from this second panel. That takes you back to
the main panel. Be sure to "enable" the operation you just created. When you
have made whatever updates you want (i.e. set up triggers for emails), then
select "OK" from the first panel. You can then come back in and verify that
the triggers you set up are enabled as desired and you can edit or even delete
these "filters". The main panel also shows the last time an email was sent for
each of the things you are monitoring.

You could do something similar for the other events, but again, they
unfortunately only work for a CPC that is operating in DPM mode. Please try
again for the operation types that are supported in non-DPM mode and see if you
can actually set things up. A good one to at least use for a test of the setup
is the "OS Msg example" as presumably you could do something to trigger some
Operating System Messages from at least a test LPAR.
