Phil, FPE - I learn a bit more every day.
That would be an improvement over a random cypher, but wouldn't the length and repeatability of the data patterns after encryption negatively affect LZW compression, along with deduplication? Not true with format-preserving data protection. Since the protected data has the same format as the original, it should compress just as well. With other forms of encryption, sure. And yes, this is a well-integrated feature of PE encryption! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
