Slower, costlier and a UI that does not take advantage of cursor movement,
highlighting and control characters; otherwise about the same.

Are you using the 3270 OMVS UI for shell access? If so, don't do that! On Windows use a terminal emulator like PuTTY which is full duplex and responds to cursor movement. Also, use Rockets bash port and not /bin/sh for interactive shells. I use Vim as the editor on headless systems and it's great once you've learned enough to get you going. It's a learning curve that's worth the effort. Rocket has a port of Vim which supports full colorization if you setup the terminfo
database.
