Radoslaw,

I figured that was the case too, but the reality is that z/OS Unix is used
almost everywhere. We happen to have quite a bit of Production batch writing
to Unix filesystems off platform via NFS Client mounts. I personally *hate*
that because there are always permission bit problems that arise when the owner
of the mounted filesystem makes changes because they are unaware that there are
MF jobs writing to it. We take a hands off approach when that arises and
make the affected app team work with the owner of the filesystem. Most of the
problems have arisen from shoddy implementation "way back when", when it was
easier to chmod 777 on the directory than to actually assign proper UID/GID
assignments.

Yes, you're right. However I focused on "explicit usage" of UNIX System
Services.
There is some difference between - lest's say CICS or DB2 and batch job with
step invoking some UNIX tools or plain old-fashioned COBOL program writing to a
UNIX file on HFS, NFS or even SMB-served file.

BTW: It was my old joke - to show folks how to edit VSAM KSDS with ...notepad.
Yes, it was feasible, with support for EBCDIC/ASCII and polish codepages.
