It is actually expensive to maintain the support infrastructure. There are a lot of things that must be in place so that you can call the Support Center, send dumps, receive fixes, talk to a human, and so on. There are other areas in which we would prefer to invest our limited dollars. Areas that can provide a better return on investment. Don't get me wrong - we didn't *want* to drop support for CMS/VSAM, but its time has come. :-( And it does illustrate the apparent paradox of investment: You invest your money in growth areas. When they become stable, you take your money and look for new growth. But, naturally, your Happy Campers are located back there in the nice, comfy, stable area...
