Ed,

I think you're on the right track with SPOOL problem (still won't hurt/is
better to have page an spool on separate, dedicated DASD).
DMSDCS283E The CMSPIPES saved segment could not be loaded; return code
203 from SEGMENT

You got that IPLing 190, (or CMS), right? (I have never tried to IPL
cms/190 in a v=r machine, and can't any more now that we're z/VM 5.1 and
z/VM 5.2.)

RC=203 (X'0CB') is delivered in response to a Diagnose Code x'64'; An
operation other than FINDSEG, FINDSPACE, FINDSKEL, or FINDSEGA was
requested when the host-primary address space was in the sharable state.
Wait for someone with more expertise to explain that mouthful. %-)~

In the meantime, try IPLing 190 from a smaller VMsize, like 64M - perhaps
those segments reside within the 512M size of your virtual machine and the
space was already in use (which should have resulted in a different
message). And also try from a V=V vm.

See: "z/VM Programming Services" for doc on Diag 64.

Re: z/VM paging problem further information

Hello everyone,

Hey some news to you all. And maybe this is a spooling
area
problem.

I have a VSE261 tech machine. IPLs off of 740 and had the same problem.

I made the machine a v=r machine of 512m. (size 512m)

I can IPL with some errors (I can IPL 190 too).

DMSDCS283E The CMSPIPES saved segment could not be loaded; return code
203 from

DMSDCS283E The CMSVMLIB saved segment could not be loaded; return code

I think that the code 203 indicates a storage problem but I am looking
now.

Does this give you anymore to point to?

I am being to suspect that the I MUST if done something but my logs do
not show it.
